Orchestre de la Suisse Romande
The OSR is a key cultural player in French-speaking Switzerland and the region’s leading symphony orchestra. It is also the resident orchestra of the Grand Théâtre de Genève. With 112 musicians in its ranks, the OSR is now ranked among the world’s leading orchestras. Founded in 1918 by Ernest Ansermet, the OSR has a strong reputation in both French-speaking Switzerland and internationally. The orchestra upholds the values of openness, sharing and creativity. The OSR also fulfils its cultural outreach, educational and heritage promotion roles through numerous initiatives within the city.
With the launch of Virtual Hall® in 2025 — the first virtual reality application to allow users to immerse themselves at the heart of an orchestra — the OSR is enhancing its accessibility and influence in the digital age. Blending styles and eras, and on the cusp of its second century of existence, the OSR is firmly committed to being a conduit for culture and emotion.
The OSR is supported by the City of Geneva, the Republic and Canton of Geneva, the Canton of Vaud, Radio Télévision Suisse, the Association des Amis de l’OSR, and numerous sponsors and patrons.
